It's interesting to note that Trevor Hoffman was in the Cincinnati Reds' farm system until he was left unprotected for the MLB expansion draft of November,1992. The Florida Marlins and Colorado Rockies both took part in that draft to help stock their systems prior to beginning play in the National League in the 1993 season. Trevor was selected by the Marlins with the fourth pick in the draft's first round. He made the major league team coming out of spring training and picked up his first big league win in April of that season against (who else?) the Cincinnati Reds. The Marlins then traded him to the Padres on June 24th of '93 and that's where most of us started to become more familiar with Mr. Hoffman's mound exploits. Up until that point he was probably known more for being the younger brother of former big league infielder Glenn Hoffman, who spent time with the Red Sox, Dodgers and Angels. Before we leave the subject, here's another Trevor Hoffman trivia note: as most of you are aware, Hoffman holds the all-time MLB record of 554 saves heading into the '09 season, but did you know the Bellflower, CA native holds the all-time MLB record for the most pitching appearances made with one team? Trevor's 902 appearances with the Padres from 1993-2008 is the most in history while wearing the same team's uniform. He broke the previous record of 802 appearances with one team formerly held by Walter Johnson for the Washington Senators and Roy Face with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Before I leave you, here's another little bit of baseball trivia. Where was former major league right-hander and current ATYBTC instructor Chris Hook born? Hint: his birthplace is not in the Greater Cincinnati area.
