Farris Playing the Outfield for UK

I saw in a Lexington Herald-Leader preview story on the UK baseball team that Cory Farris is in the running for one of the corner outfield spots. Cory was a catcher at Boone County HS. He was drafted by the White Sox and I understand they ended up trying pretty hard to sign him. He chose to go to school and play for the Wildcats. UK opens its season under first-year head coach Gary Henderson Feb. 20-22 in Coastal Carolina's four-team tournament. Continue

Dunn Signs with Nationals

It appears as though Adam Dunn has finally found a new home. Reports say he has signed a two-year deal with the Washington Nationals and his former GM with the Reds, Jim Bowden. That means Dunn and Austin Kearns will be reunited. Five years ago, who could have envisioned what's happened with the two guys who were the future of the Reds at the time? Continue

New Freedom Manager Spends Winter Months Giving Back to the Game AT THE YARD

No one could blame Toby Rumfield for getting as far away from a baseball bat and glove as he can in the off-season. After all, the former second-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds has spent countless hours on and around baseball fields across America for most of his 36 years. But if you thought being far away from baseball was an option, you wouldn’t know Toby Rumfield. After 14 years as a professional player, Rumfield is preparing for his fourth season as a manager at the pro level. When h… Continue

TRIVIA TIME!

It's interesting to note that Trevor Hoffman was in the Cincinnati Reds' farm system until he was left unprotected for the MLB expansion draft of November,1992. The Florida Marlins and Colorado Rockies both took part in that draft to help stock their systems prior to beginning play in the National League in the 1993 season. Trevor was selected by the Marlins with the fourth pick in the draft's first round. He made the major league team coming out of spring training and picked up his first big le… Continue

Hooky Witnessed History, Now Reunites with Lett, Hoffman

Our very own Chris Hook was a member of the Reds' Class-A Charleston affiliate in 1990 when the conversion of Trevor Hoffman from an infielder into a pitcher took place. That's right...the all-time MLB saves leader was once a light-hitting shortstop in the Reds' farm system. This spring there will be a reunion of sorts with the Milwaukee Brewers. Hoffman just signed a one-year deal to pitch for the Brewers after not being re-signed by the Padres. The manager at Charleston in 1990 who oversaw Hof… Continue
